DNS Security Filters, Full IPv6 Monitoring, and More

Posted by: on

After almost twelve months of development and testing, and lots of feedback from our valued customers, we’re excited to announce the latest release of the RBLTracker monitoring service.

This release includes a long list of new features, bug fixes, and various changes- too many to list in one post.

Some of the major changes include:

DNS Security Filter Monitoring

This release includes data aggregated from 11 different DNS Security filtering services, including:

  • Quad9 DNS Security
  • OpenDNS FamilyShield
  • CleanBrowsing DNS Filter (Adult, Family, & Security)
  • Comodo Secure DNS
  • Yandex Safe DNS (Family & Safe)
  • Neustar (Business, Family, & Threat)

These organizations provide public DNS services, used by 10’s of millions of users around the world, which filter out malicious or unwanted domain names. The “Family” and “Adult” lists will also tag domains that are associated with adult content, and may or may not be relevant for all customers.

IPv6 Monitoring Support

This release includes support for monitoring IPv6 addresses, IPv6 CIDR blocks, and IPv6 ranges.

There are only currently a handful of RBL providers and services that publish data for IPv6 IP addresses, but as the Internet transitions from IPv4 to IPv6, it will become more and more important to make sure that your IPv6 address space is clean and ready to accept traffic.

API Applications

This release includes support for adding more than one API auth key per account, by creating multiple “API Applications”.

Each API Application can be enabled / disabled / reset independently, and include request and failure stats, including a detailed error log, to help developers diagnose issues during their development process.
